New for 2026

Tulips At Houghton

We are delighted to announce Tulips at Houghton, celebrating the sights and sounds of spring, which opens on Saturday 11 April. Planned in collaboration with leading bulb specialists Peter Nyssen, the planting is set to transform the award-winning five-acre Walled Garden into a joyous celebration of spring colour.

The tulip displays have been carefully designed to complement each distinct area of the garden, evolving subtly over the weeks. Expect species tulips naturalised beneath old fruit trees, drifts of later-flowering varieties in borders and walkways, and numerous potted displays throughout the garden.

In this blog, tulip expert Stephen Teeuw shares his excitement about Tulips at Houghton and picks his favourite blooms.

Tulip progress

The tulip varieties have been selected to coincide with the Walled Garden’s opening on Saturday 11 April, and displays are expected to continue until early May, subject to seasonal conditions.

As we are in the hands of Mother Nature, you will appreciate that we can't be sure of tulip flowering patterns (although the spring garden will be lovely) but, to help you plan your visit, our gardeners will share regular updates on the Walled Garden Instagram feed @houghton_walled_garden.

We look forward to welcoming you this spring!
