Bringing your dog to Houghton
We welcome your canine friends at Houghton, but please be aware that for practical purposes this is only in the areas listed below. For the safety and comfort of other visitors, wildlife and livestock, dogs must be kept on short, non-extendable leads at all times. Please keep an eye out for young deer which may be hidden in the grass – it is important to ensure your dog does not approach, touch or sniff the deer.
Areas where well-behaved dogs on short leads (no extendable leads please) are permitted:
The deer park (East Front) – short grass areas only
The Old Stables Courtyard
The historic stables
The Stables Café and garden area behind it
The Gift Shop
These areas are included in the Garden ticket (£12 on the gate; £10 online).
With the exception of support dogs (which we request wear their coloured harness or jacket), dogs are NOT permitted in the following:
The Hall
The Walled Garden
The Contemporary Gallery
The West Front (where the majority of the sculptures are located)
The Soldier Museum
St Martin’s Church and churchyard
Please pick up after your dog and dispose of bags in the dog bin located in the car park.
